Who We Are

Downriver Mutual Aid Fire Service Division is comprised from members of eighteen Downriver Fire Departments which include:

Allen Park, Brownstown, Dearborn/Melvindale, Detroit Metro Airport, Ecorse, Flat Rock, Gibraltar, Grosse Ile, Huron Twp, Lincoln Park, River Rouge, Riverview, Rockwood, Southgate, Taylor, Trenton, Woodhaven and Wyandotte

The Downriver Mutual Aid Fire Service Division was first formed on March 12, 1968, pursuant to Michigan Public Act 35 of 1951. The Downriver Community Conference is the overall board of directors for this group and also handles the fiduciary and budget oversight. An executive fire board comprised of three fire chiefs from the participating communities is elected by the Fire Chiefs group every two years.

Mission Statement

Shall provide the leadership and cooperation necessary to advance fire prevention, fire suppression, emergency medical services, and emergency management to the individual member departments.
Shall provide an environment whereby member fire departments can quickly and easily share manpower, resources, and training for the greater benefit of the citizens and responding personnel to the extent that is practical and feasible within the Policies, Standard Operating Procedures, or Standard Operating Guidelines of each respective fire department.
Shall keep the following idea paramount in all that we do and bestow this value on both those we report to and also the members of our respective fire departments: "The primary mission within each of our respective boundaries is to protect and preserve human life and limit human suffering and we will take extraordinary measures to do so. Jurisdictional borders are political and manmade. They were never intended to cause harm to the citizens or employees within their borders. Therefore, no citizen or rescuer shall receive delayed assistance nor less assistance than they require in their hour of need due to a line drawn on a paper map."
Shall be fiscally responsible with the respective budgets provided by the citizens we serve by using forward thinking methods to realizing cost savings by working together.
Shall maintain a cooperative that each member of each respective Fire Department can be proud of.
Shall strive to bring no dishonor upon the group served by its members, nor the citizens we serve.
